Christian Schmutz
Dipl.-Ing. M.Arch. Architect, received the Master of Excellence in Architecture in 2001 from the Berlage Institute, Postgraduate Laboratory of Architecture, in Rotterdam. For the postgraduates studies he was granted a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In 1998 he graduated with the Diplom-Ingenieur from the University of Stuttgart after having completed his architectural studies including a one-year-exchange program at the Graz University of Technology.

During and after his studies he worked in several renowned practices in Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands, among them Formalhaut/ Frankfurt, Volker Gienkce/ Graz, Stéphane Beel/ Gent and SauerbruchHutton/ Berlin.
In 2005 Christian Schmutz founded, with Marisol Rivas Velázquez, Architecture, Urbanism + Research Agency.

Parallel to his professional practice in 2004 he has been Visiting Professor at the ITESM Monterrey, Mexico. At the Institute of Design.studio2, Faculty of Architecture of Leopold-Franzens-University in Innsbruck he has been Assistant Professor from 2005 until 2013 and lecturer from 2013 until 2015, where he has taught seminars and design courses at both bachelor and master level as well as tutoring graduating projects. From 2012 until 2014 he has been lecturer at the Institute for Construction and Design 1 of University of Stuttgart.
